A baby diaper cake is simple to make. You will need a couple of things:
A round base -- you can purchase cake bases at Walmart. Sixty Size 2 diapers Two baby bottles, one 12 oz., one 6 oz. Lots of rubberbands. Clear ones (I found mine at Kmart) and six large rubberbands Three color coordinating ribbons ranging in size from 1 inch to 1-1/2 inch thick Double sided tape Any embellishments, including pacifiers, spoons, teething rings, rattles
First, cover your cake base. I used an already made flouncy trim. You can use gift wrap. Roll your diapers from front to back and close with a clear rubber band. Complete rolling all of your diapers. Place large bottle (12 oz) in center of cake base and place six diapers around it and use a large rubberband to keep them in place. Once that is secure, place another large rubberband around it and start placing 12 more diapers as the next section around it. Continue with third section of 18 diapers. You are done with your first layer of "cake!"
On the next level, place six diapers around the bottle. If you need to, place the second bottle on top of the first. Using large rubberband, secure the six diapers. Start again with second section of 12 diapers. You're done with the second layer now!
Last layer: If you have not already done so, place the smaller bottle in and wrap six diapers around and keep in place with rubberband. The bottle may be sticking out and we can cover that with a large bow or a stuffed animal.
Now you are ready to embellish your take with your ribbons and add ins. Be creative. You are only limited by your imagination. Look around the net to get ideas if you have to. But enjoy! Your mother-to-be friend will love her cake, believe me. :)
